Dr. Huner Khayyat

Dr. Huner Khayyat is an Assistant Professor and geospatial executive specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, and climate change, with more than twenty years of professional experience across NGOs, the private sector, and multiple Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) ministries. He holds a Ph.D. with distinction in GIS and Remote Sensing (Climate Change) from a joint doctoral program between Sapienza University of Rome and Salahaddin University–Erbil, in addition to an M.Sc. with distinction in GIS and Remote Sensing Applications and a Postgraduate Diploma in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation from the University of Twente (ITC), the Netherlands. Dr. Khayyat has extensive experience in academic teaching, research, and applied geospatial consulting, has published more than ten peer-reviewed research works, co-authored the Springer Nature book Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS in Iraq, and is a co-founder of the Kurdistan Geographers Society.
